Wrapping Up 2022

Here we are, standing on the “cusp” – in my world and in this context that is the span of time that exists between two years. As today dawned and I anticipated writing this post, I wasn’t really clear on what I wanted to share. What could I offer that might be helpful?

Here’s where I landed; nothing.

I’ve actually got nothing to expound about.

Nothing particularly “leader-ly”, at least.

And then it occurred to me that I could share some thoughts about where I am these days, and how I’m being in this space. Because in sharing THAT, there may be something that you might take away.

So, here’s my current truth: it’s all about rest.

The last few weeks I have found myself feeling called to rest. I’ve been noting the need for comfort in all forms: copious amounts of tea, cozy scarves and blankets, fuzzy slippers, casserole-type foods, rereading books that I love (rather than diving into anything new), moments of silence and contemplation – and sleep. So much time spent sleeping (usually at least 9 hours each night).

As I look at the world around me and the folks around me, I notice that others seem cognizant of this call as well, whether they are honouring it or not. I see and hear many people articulating their own need for rest, even as they are operating in a frenetic, mad dash to the end of the year. There seems to be an awareness that some time for restoration is needed by all.

And so, here’s what I want to offer you: give yourself and those around you to take some time to slow down. Whatever your plans, whatever festivities are on your calendar, whatever visits or excursions you have on the horizon – in the midst of all of that, find – no, CREATE – some time to rest. Be really deliberate about it. Source the activities and moments that will rejuvenate you.

What I know for sure is that this is the time of year when we NATURALLY crave rest and restoration. You need only look at the natural world around you to see the truth of this. Animals are hibernating. Outdoor plants are dormant. The days are shorter and the nights longer. All of this is reflective of the very NATURAL opportunity for us to rest at this time of year.

With this in mind, know that I will be taking a writing break over the next several weeks. I will be slowing down my work in phases and easing into a time of complete restoration between the two markers of Christmas and New Year’s. Your next formal post from me will be in mid-January. Until then, know that I wish you a time of rest, restoration and rejuvenation.
