The Magic of One

As I sit here typing this post, I am aware of an intense level of fatigue. It’s not entirely new; I’ve felt this before. And, despite its familiarity, it’s annoying. As I said in a recent FaceBook Live video, I’m just tired of being tired.

I’m a smart woman; I know (at least in some measure) why the fatigue is present. The truth is that I’ve got a lot on the go (much like you) and I want to do it all NOW. In other words, I’m not being very reasonable (or patient).

I want to coach my clients.
I want to prep for an upcoming course (actually, for three).
I want to get organized for a team coaching session.
I want to develop workshop materials.
I want to get going on my podcast (I’m launching this July 1st – I’ll share more about that later).
I want to finish my grocery order.
I want to get dinner made.
I want to read my book.
I want to go for a walk.
I want to bake a pie.
I want to have a virtual visit with a friend, or two or three.

And on and on the list goes.

When you look at the list, perhaps you can see that ALL of these things are important; they matter to me for one reason or another. Regardless of how important they are however, conventional wisdom would remind me that I cannot have – or do – it all.

And then I remember the wise words of Oprah Winfrey who said: “You CAN have it all, just not all at once.”

And the same holds true for doing. I can do it all, just not all at once.

So, my solution is what I call “The Magic of One”.

I need to take a breath and give myself permission to go about my day one task at a time, one step at a time, one breath at a time.

Whatever never-ending list you are tackling these days, whatever thoughts are vying for brain space, I invite you to adopt the “magic of one” as your mantra. Take a deep breath, and focus on your ONE THING. Focusing on ONE, is the best way forward.
